Dr. James K. Bass is one of America’s most celebrated choral musicians and has led the Long Beach Camerata Singers with artistry, imagination and heart for more than a decade. He also serves as Director of Choral Studies and Chair of the Department of Music Performance, Education & Composition at the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music and Artistic Director of Seraphic Fire in Miami. 

Grammy® Glory 3 

In 2021, Dr. Bass earned a Grammy Award for Best Choral Performance for his work as chorus master and soloist on Richard Danielpour’s The Passion of Yeshua with the UCLA Chamber Singers and the Buffalo Philharmonic. His artistry can also be heard on acclaimed recordings with Conspirare, Seraphic Fire and True Concord.

From the Concert Hall to the Classroom 

Whether conducting a world-class orchestra, performing as a soloist or mentoring young musicians, Dr. Bass is passionate about sharing the power of music. He has collaborated with renowned ensembles including the Cleveland Orchestra, New World Symphony and Santa Fe Desert Chorale, and co-founded the Professional Choral Institute to help train the next generation of ensemble artists.

Tammi Alderman brings energy, artistry and a passion for building community through music as Associate Conductor of the Long Beach Camerata Singers. She also serves as Director of Choral and Vocal Music for the Temple City Unified School District, where she inspires students of all ages to discover the joy of singing. 

​

Building Musicians for Life 

For nearly two decades, Ms. Alderman has taught choirs from elementary school through college in California and Colorado. Known for creating vibrant, supportive ensembles, she helps singers develop confidence, musicianship and expressive artistry. Her choirs consistently earn top honors at festivals and competitions across the country.

Teacher, Leader and Lifelong Learner 

Beyond Camerata, Ms. Alderman serves on the music education faculty at California State University, Fullerton, directs the choral program at Arrowbear Summer Music Camp and helps lead the Choral Camp through Pacific Chorale and CSU Fullerton. She is also a sought-after guest conductor, clinician and adjudicator for honor choirs and festivals throughout the Southwest. 4 

Shaping the Future of Choral Music 

A dedicated advocate for music education, Ms. Alderman serves in leadership roles with the Southern California Vocal Association and the California Choral Directors Association. She is currently completing her doctorate at the USC Thornton School of Music, where her research focuses on helping young singers thrive through thoughtful repertoire selection.
